Frenectomies

Frenectomy refers to the procedure that removes the connective tissue (called the frenum) at either the top or the bottom of the mouth, specifically under the tongue or the upper gums. Frenectomies are usually performed in children who are experiencing certain speech, feeding, or orthodontic problems.

There are two types of frenectomies:

Maxillary frenectomy. This procedure is also called a labial frenectomy, which removes the piece of tissue connecting the upper gums to the front teeth, also referred to as a lip-tie.

Lingual frenectomy. This procedure involves removing the tissue connecting the underside of the tongue to the floor of the mouth, commonly known as a tongue-tie.

New technologies have made frenectomies a safe and convenient option for patients of all ages. We offer frenectomy procedures in our office.
